The worlds are colliding
mrgan: Epic knowledge dropped by stevenf tonight: In the New World, computers are task-centric. We are reading email, browsing the web, playing a game, but not all at once. Applications are sandboxed, then moats dug around the sandboxes, and then barbed wire placed around the moats. As a direct result, New World computers do not need virus scanners, their batteries last longer, and they...

"We the corporations" →
azspot: We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to: Firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights. Guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our votes and participation count. Protect local...

Most Americans would trim liberties to be safer →
azspot: The survey found 51 percent of Americans agreeing that “it is necessary to give up some civil liberties in order to make the country safe from terrorism.” Truly horrifying. But I’m going to choose to take some solace in the fact that this survey was conducting just after a thwarted terrorist attack. 51% don’t think this way all the time. Right? {gulp}

marco: I don’t want to be a part of any company that’s so poorly managed, or simply so cheap, that employees are expected to forego a healthy lifestyle. No job is worth that. Huzzah! I have felt this way, pretty much, my entire adult working life. The optimist in me says that I’ll be able to find a company (an employer) who shares this point of view. But my (admittedly limited)...
