– From Jack Cheng’s latest. I wonder, from time to time, for all the good I find in the internet (in the form of entertainment and information) if it isn’t in some way eroding my “lo-fi” time. The moments when I day-dream or let my mind wander. Update: Seems to be a common...

"1000 novels"
The Guardian (a UK newspaper) is creating a list of 1000 Novels Everyone Must Read. I was surprised by how many I had read on the sci-fi/fantasy list. Neil Gaiman: American Gods (2001) Aldous Huxley: Brave New World (1932) Richard Matheson: I Am Legend (1954) Audrey Niffenegger: The Time Traveler’s Wife (2003) Chuck Palahniuk: Fight Club (1996) JK Rowling: Harry Potter and the...

Enough Already
I am sick to tears of all the presidential inauguration “coverage.” Barack Obama got my vote, and I was more than happy to give it. I am excited to see what kind of president he will be. But that does not mean that I care what color the VIP seats are. This is not information that helps me to understand the significance of this event. Stop it. 24-hour news cycle be damned, if you...

– I’m reading a lot of frustration in that short statement from Barack Obama. The Bush Administration has shown it’s reluctance to issue a strong statement regarding this conflict. I think the President-Elect is feeling hemmed in by the “one President at a time” policy....

marco: Casey Liss: Is there any far-and-away winner for best Macworld keynote coverage? Usually: MacRumors Live has the best, fastest, and most convenient text updates. Engadget lags behind, but posts the best and the most photos. I like Ars Technica’s coverage. And Macworld posts updates in complete sentences, which I find to be a nice alternative.

– Leaving Schmuckville, a Vanity Fair piece from 2006. Zach Helm is the writer behind one of my favorites films, Stranger than Fiction. His personal writing manifesto is inspiring. Can’t shake the feeling, though, that it only works because of a mix of previous success (to fund the low points)...
