Thoughts/wishlist about last night’s presidential debates: Despite what some have said, I thought Jim Lehrer could have been more forceful. He too often let the candidates stray into stump speech territory. And I noticed that more than once Obama ceased the arguing and deferred to Lehrer. While commendable on Obama’s part, I would think a stronger moderator would have had better...

– The elicitation paragraph from the Speech Accent Archive. I recognized this passage from it’s use in the excellent iapga song “Snow Peas”. Always thought it was such an odd bit of recording, nice to know the background. (via lonelysandwich, from Design Info)

Andy Rutledge is a talented and insightful designer and opinionated critic. I consistently enjoy his work at the Design View weblog, particularly the long-running “Redux” series ( where Andy provides a step-by-step analysis of a well-known website as well as his version of a redesigned user experience). Sadly, his latest redux leaves much to be desired. Andy turns his attention to the...

marco: I’m trying to find some fun Wii games to play with my groomsmen in our hotel, but can’t find any that get very solid recommendations that we’d actually enjoy except Mario Kart. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Granted the game isn’t released until Sept. 16, but it looks AMAZING. According to the site (Flash only) the Wii version of the game features: …Duel Mode, where two players...

Let's Rock
Well, look’s like I was both right and wrong w/r/t my predictions on the iPod touch announcements. I said back in June: My guess is that we’ll see a “price cut” whereby the 16GB model drops to $299, the 32GB becomes $399 and the 8GB disappears. That pretty much fits Apple’s modus operandi. Right on target with the 16GB and 32GB models. The $229 8GB strikes me as a little odd. Must...

Six word story.
bunnynico (via squashed) Hemingway once wrote a story in just six words (“For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”) and is said to have called it his best work. Here’s mine off hand:  She jumped into the cold water. What’s yours?  Here are some others. “A maid laughing is half taken.” ~ English proverb

Better
merlin: Politics, celebrity gossip, business headlines, tech punditry, odd news, and user-generated content. These are the chew toys that have made me sad and tired and cynical. Each, in its own way, contributes to the imperative that we constantly expand our portfolio of shallow but strongly-held opinions about nearly everything. Then we’re supposed to post something about it. Somewhere. … ...
